STILL POINT SKETCHING

MINDFUL DRAWING

ONLINE COURSE

Six thirty minute sessions of guided mindful drawing meditations and printable workbooks
designed to help you find peace on the page.

Know you need to draw more because it gives you the headspace you crave but find it hard to get on the page?

The Mindful Drawing Online Course contains six 30-minute audio drawing meditation designed to help you find peace on the page.

You'll be led through a series of timed drawing exercises that quieten the logic and language parts of your brain allowing you to access the creative, visual parts of your brain where you’ll find your “still point in the turning world” (TS Eliot).

Each session is focused around a different theme such as “beginning”, “letting go”, or “slowing down” so you can select the session that suits your changing needs.

You’ll be gradually introduced to new drawing exercises building a complete “mindful drawing repertoire” culminating in a “full workout” in session six where you’ll be guided through all the exercises you’ve covered.

“It’s like yoga for the sketchbook!” Beth Morris

This course is perfect for people who want to develop a regular drawing practice because they know that drawing makes them feel good but may need a hand getting onto the page.  You can relax in the knowledge that there's no pressure to produce “good” drawings in these sessions and no previous drawing experience is necessary - relax and be guided through exercises that help you to access the visual parts of the mind and allow you to see what is really there.

“I’m more relaxed about my drawing now and I’m doing it!” Pauline Laing

In January 2018 I made a resolution to draw every day because I wanted to improve my drawing skills.  I soon found that act of drawing daily improved more than my drawing skills –  I began to notice that when I was drawing, the chattering thoughts in my head slowed down and I felt more deeply connected to myself and my environment.  I began to notice that on the days that I hadn’t drawn, my mind was “foggier”and less focused.

Having practiced meditation for many years, I realized that the process of observational drawing increased my awareness of the present moment in the same way that meditation did but somehow drawing had a more immediate impact than meditation and my experience of peace increased more significantly while drawing than any other mindful practice I’d ever experienced.

Because the process of observational drawing created a sense of stillness and peace in a busy world, I knew that others could benefit from this so I started running 30-day online drawing challenges. People were still inhibited by the idea of doing “good” drawings which distracted them from the peaceful feeling that being absorbed in the process of observational drawing could give them so I developed the Mindful Drawing sessions.  I have been teaching Mindful Drawing for over a year now.

Here’s what some of the participants have to say:

“My confidence has grown and I continue to draw or make time for something creative every day now” Molly Dolly

“They’re always a fantastic way to focus, loosen up and help you to find your still point in this busy world!” Jean Dagg

"They helped me find the confidence to create and rediscovering the joy of drawing again. I have realised just how much I missed drawing and how much I need it for my wellbeing.”  Louisa Kelly

"The Mindful Drawing sessions are great fun, I would have never thought to do those activities without Marigold - they're freeing and help with my drawing practice - it's like being back at art school again!"

It's hard to find the motivation to draw sometimes but there’s nothing like having someone else tell you what to do to help you get over that resistance and onto the page.  Consider me your personal mindful drawing coach!  It’s like having a drawing yoga instructor in your pocket.

Is it a "spiritual" course, do I need to believe in anything?

Not at all, it's mindful drawing in the sense that drawing brings you into the present and quietens the thoughts.  The focus is on the process of observational drawing and the exercises simply guide you to access the visual, creative parts of your brain and quieten the logic, language parts allowing you to experience a sense of spaciousness in your mind and go to a place beyond words.
